Close contest in Hayuliang by-election

ITANAGAR, Nov 15: A block-buster contest is in the offing in the Hayuliang Assembly constituency by-election with barely few days left. There is straight fight between two women candidates - Dasanglu Pul of North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) and Yompi Kri, an independent candidate. The seat for Hayuliang constituency had fallen vacant after the death of former Chief Minister Kalikho Pul who had allegedly committed suicide after a tumultuous political crisis.
BJP fielded Dasanglu Pul, wife of late Pul as NEDA candidate with the hope of garnering sympathy votes. However as per the report, the voters are deeply divided over legacy issue, which has opened window of opportunity for Mrs Kri. The election is so close that Chief Minister Pema Khandu and other senior ministers have been forced to visit Anjaw twice to campaign for Mrs Pul. "There is no doubt that Dasanglu Pul enjoys sympathy of public. But sections of voters are looking for change after being under Kalikho Pul for the last 25 years. Therefore, it is a close fight and both the sides stand chance to win the contest," said a source from Tezu.
Addressing an election rally at Hayuliang on Monday Chief Minister Pema Khandu appealed to the people to vote for Dasanglu as a mark of respect to the former chief minister. While assuring the people of his government's all-out support for the overall development of the border district, he also promised to review road compensation rate, promote large cardamom cultivation and shift the present firing range of the Army at Cherang to elsewhere, an official communiqué said. State BJP president Tapir Gao, Home Minister Kumar Waii also made pleas to the voters to support Dasanglu for the development of the district bordering China, it added.
The constituency with a total electorate of 11,003, including 5,508 female voters, has 81 polling stations of which three--Kibitho, Aphumna and Taflagam -- are situated near the International Border with China. The highest numbers of electors are in Hayuliang polling station with 955 voters while Malogam polling station has only two. (With input from PTI)
Freedom of Press must be respected for a better and healthier society: Governor
ITANAGAR, Nov 15: The freedom of Press must be respected for a better and healthier society while the Press Media should also maintain Press ethics, said Governor of Arunachal Pradesh V Shanmuganathan in his message to the media fraternity of the state on the occasion of National Press Day. He expressed his hope that the celebration of free Press and freedom of expression will instills new zeal and passion amongst the members the Fourth Estate.
Conveying his warm greetings and good wishes to the media fraternity on the special occasion of National Press Day, the Governor said "the media is the most powerful tool of communication. It helps in promoting the right things at right time and gives a real exposure about the realities. It has a constructive role to play for the society as mouthpiece of social issues."
He wished that the celebration of the Day encourages the media fraternities of the State to continue their indispensable contribution towards building stronger, healthier and more peaceful societies. "On the special occasion, I call upon all my fellow citizens to uphold the sanctity of the Fourth Estate," the Governor appealed in his message.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu has also extended greetings to the press fraternity of the state on occasion of National Press Day.
"This is a day to recognize and acknowledge the contributions of the media in development and evolution of our state. Press persons of our state, despite several hurdles, have been working day and night to keep people informed and create opinion through their writings, reports, films and documentaries. Let's thank them for their role in our daily lives on this day," he said in a message this evening.
In a vibrant democracy like India, he said the Press as the fourth estate, has a major role in upholding the principles of justice, peace and communal harmony. Meanwhile, the Chief Minister also greeted the Press Council of India on completion of fifty years of service to the nation.

APC calls for greater participation in clean Arunachal mission
ITANAGAR, Nov 15: Like every year, the Press fraternity under the banner of Arunachal Pradesh Union of Working Journalist (APUWJ), Arunachal Electronic Media Association (AEMA) and Arunachal Press Club (APC) in collaboration with Department of IPR is all set to observe the National Press Day (NPD) on the theme 'Role of Media in Promoting Swachh Bharat Abhiyan 'here at state Banquet Hall on November 16.
While elaborating on the theme of this year NPD, President APC, Chopa Cheda opined that 'the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is the most significant cleanliness campaign launched by the Government of India under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and how to make it success with help of state Media and what role can media play in the campaign is the basic theme of NPD'2016.
Chopa further said 'media has major role not only in promoting 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan' but also in state tourism and others, as by default Media became the major stakeholder in such mega and important projects. Without taking along the media there are less chances of its success, as both print and electronic media helps to create mass awareness on development initiatives. However, it has been observed that often nodal agencies of such project avoid media in our state, he added.
While, appealing people to join hand for clean and green Arunachal, President APC also urged well wishers to come and join in celebrating the National Press Day.
National Press Day (NPD) is being celebrated across the country on November 16 every year. This was the day on which the Press Council of India started functioning as a moral watchdog to ensure that not only did the press maintain the high standards expected from this powerful medium but also that it was not fettered by the influence or threats of any extraneous factors.
Cashless transaction to be made available in all the major hospitals of Capital Complex
ITANAGAR, Nov 15: In the wake of demonetization of currency notes Capital Complex Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Kumar Singh on Tuesday announced cashless transaction in the five major private Hospitals in the Capital Complex, namely, RKM Hospital, Heema Hospital, both in Itanagar, Niba Hospital, Hormin Hospital in Naharlagun and the Tago Memorial Hospital in Nirjuli for the convenience of people to do transaction using their debit/ credit cards. The system will start from tomorrow evening onwards. This decision was announced by the capital district administration during a review meeting with the Branch Managers of all the banks of Capital Complex in connection with the demonetization process and its impact on banks and the people.
During the meeting, DC asked the SBI Branch Manager to ensure equal distribution of cash to all the bank branches and to ensure that small denomination notes reach all the banks. The DC also appealed the public not to panic and not to hoard up the denomination of Rs 100 as there is enough cash in the market.
The DC further said all the branches of Apex Bank will also start to dispense cash from 12pm onwards tomorrow.
The banks Branch Managers in turn assured that enough cash is available with the banks and that the notes of 500 denominations would also be available soon. They also informed that the ATMs would also calibrate soon with the new currency notes.
Earlier, EAC Itanagar, Jiken Bomjen, CO Naharlagun, Neelam Teji also stressed on the need to have sufficient denominations of small currency notes.
The SDPO Itanagar, Techi Hanyir also gave an overview of the security scenario and informed that enough security personnel has been deployed in all the banks.
Later, the DC asked the Branch Managers to submit daily report on amount exchange, ATM functionality, cash in hand etc of their respective branches.

Arunachal IMA unit to join nationwide protest

ITANAGAR, Nov 15: Expressing solidarity with Indian Medical Association in nationwide protest against the Centre Government's attempt to replace Indian Medical Council (IMC), a self-regulatory body, with the National Medical Commission (NMC), the Indian Medical Association (IMA) Arunachal state branch on Tuesday decided to stage satyagraha by wearing black badge on 16th November 2016 . This was informed by IMA state unit, Secretary Dr. Jego Ori in a press conference held here on Tuesday.
Addressing the media persons, the medical fraternity claimed that the Central government is attempting to control an autonomous body by replacing Indian Medical Council with National Medical Commission (NMC). IMA state unit added that medical profession bestowed with reasonable autonomy which provides flexibility to keep pace of rapidly advancing science.
Strongly opposing the government’s move to replace the IMC with nominated body like NMC, IMA state unit termed the Centre's move to abolish democratic institution as unacceptable.
The IMA state unit along with its central body demanded for scrapping of National Medical Commission. The medical association however welcomed reformation of IMC if needed. It also claimed that inducting non-medical person in the highest regulatory body would take away character of sacrosanct institution.
Claiming that government has allowed non-MBBS doctors such as AYUSH doctors to perform emergency duty at hospital and prescribe allopathic medicines to patients, the association stated it would put the innocent patients' lives at risk. The medical fraternity demanded for discontinuation of such practice and stated that law of prescription should be strictly adhered to. IMA further opposed penal provisions under PCPNDT Act where doctors can be booked for clerical error, it demanded for re-amendment of the said Act.
The IMA state unit would submit a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking immediate readdressal of the grievances raised by the medical professionals. It is said that proposed agitation was temporarily postponed earlier after the intervention of Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare J P Nadda, but nothing happened so far.
Bank not adhering to rules, claims APSGPA
ITANAGAR, Nov 15: The Arunachal Pradesh State Govt Pensioners' Association (APSGPA) has sought state government's intervention into the problems faced by the pensioners of the state.
In a release, it claimed that the pensioners have to present themselves physically for payment despite of an order by the central pension accounting office under department of expenditure in the finance ministry to all the authorized banks exempting the pensioners from physical appearance if their life certificate is submitted duly signed.
'We are facing difficulties in State Bank of India (SBI) as the pension disbursing branches of the state insist upon physical appearance of the physically handicapped pensioners even when the life certificate in the prescribed format are certified and signed by the authorized gazette officers of the government, which is not synchronized with the government of India and RBI instruction,' it said seeking state government to direct SBI branches in the state to adhere to the rules.
Liromoba Hydel Project inaugurated
AALO, Nov 15: "I do not look any development pertaining to Arunachal Pradesh from political angle as I have been given the mandate to represent the state in Parliament and I will continue to look all schemes sent by the state government at Delhi," said Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju while inaugurating 2MW Liromoba Hydel Project and laying the foundation stone of Multipurpose Community Hall at Liromoba on Tuesday. The project has been pending for past many years due to lackadaisical attitude of the Subash Project handling the contract works and consequent litigation and CBI case. It has been restored by the Govt. to cope with power needs of many interior circles of the district.
Rijiju lamented that many of the development schemes could not be taken up at expected pace due to instability in the government for last one and half years. He said state govt. need to work on war footing manner in a cohesive way in remaining three financial years to make up for the vacuum that has been created.
Since road is the lifeline for the people he assured to follow up the schemes submitted under CRF to the tune of Rs 30 crores for Tai-Liromoba Road.
Nyamar Karbak MLA Liromoba cum Parliamentary Secretary Youth Affairs & Sports expressed his deep gratitude to Purpa Tsering former Parliamentary Secretary Hydro Power for rendering all help to restore the defunct hydel project. With the inauguration of said project Liromoba, Yomcha, Tirbin and Kamba are likely to be covered under this hydel project.
Speaking on the occasion, Parliamentary Secretary Education Bamang Felix assured to send the requisite TGT teachers after finalization of appointment. He also assured to look into appeal for the toilets for girls at hostel and schools as it is mandatory in the education policy.

Mountain peak proposed to be named after Anshu
ITANAGAR, Nov 15: Ace mountaineer Anshu Jamsenpa was felicitated for her mountaineering achievements in a function organized by Adhunik India Foundation in New Delhi on November 13.
Union Minister for Tribal Affairs Jual Oram, who attended the function, showering praise on Anshu for her unmatched achievements, stating that she was a big inspiration and a symbol of women empowerment.
Director, Indian Railways Uday Singh Mina also congratulated three-time Everester Anshu for her recent double summit of Mt Gorichen East and an unnamed virgin peak (6493 mtr) in Arunachal Himalayas.
Chairman of Adhunik India Foundation DK Chauhan advocated and opined that the newly summited peak (in Arunachal Himalayas) should be named as 'Anshu' peak as she is the first mountaineer, who took up the challenge to explore and chart the treacherous blue ice route to the top.
He further stated that Anshu with a fellow mountaineer Shanti Rai from Sikkim had unfurled the national flag on this peak on October 21, which not many people knew until TOI featured it on November 7 edition.
Indian Mountaineering Foundation, the apex national body for mountaineering expeditions in India also appreciated Anshu's PowerPoint presentation on All Women Expedition to Gorichen range.
Anshu stated that today mountaineering is no longer climbing mountains only. It is about exploration and opening of new vistas for generations to follow.
IMF President Col H S Chauhan, Chairman of the Expedition Committee Prem Singh DIG ITBP, Governing Council member Col Ajit Dutt, Brig K Kumar and several others congratulated Anshu for the double summit in one expedition.
My early days of photojournalism

The photo journalist is a challenging task. It was the year 1982 when I had begun to take photography for media houses. At that time I had used Click-III black & white camera with 12 copy roll which was operated manually.
My photography career started with amazing experience when I had taken first photograph amid protest from authorities. A mass eviction drive was carried out against unauthorised Kaccha houses constructed along the main road in Naharlagun. During early 80's there was no any RCC building both in Naharlagun and Itanagar except one or two-room RCC building located in Barapani, Naharlagun.
A large numbers of police and CRFP personnel were deployed at evection spot in order to contain law and order problem. The forest department also pressed labourers into service to dismantle unauthorized houses. At that time, state had no newspaper or electronic media.
Though I was not allowed, I had volunteered to take photograph with an objective to publish it in Assam Tribune, Guwahati. I had managed to take almost 15 shots on different situations. But suddenly CRFP personnel had noticed me and tried their best to catch me but I managed to run fast as possible. They chased me for a distance of about two hundred metres in main road in midst of hundred of people but they could not catch me. Finally I had diverted my direction uphill towards present Youth Hostel, Naharlagun. They could not chase me further, hence they shouted at me to stop, else they would fire me. I realized it and immediately stop running with raising my hands. Within no time they pulled me down and snatched my camera.
Thereafter a group of five CRFP personnel had paraded me on the street in full view of crowd up to Police Station, Naharlagun. The police had seized my camera and kept me in police custody. However I was allowed to leave Police Station on fair bond. At that point of time I was just 20 years old and had never been to Tomo Riba, the then opposition leader and former Chief Minister of this State but I managed to get appointment and introduced myself to him and apprised him about my camera. He appreciated my attempt and promised me to get back my camera. I was so excited at that moment with his words of appreciation because it was my first meeting with such political stalwart, hence my heart was remaining thrilling for several days. Still I do fond of remembering this moment and great Tomo Riba.
After a month's period he informed me that he had raised this issue in Assembly and it had allowed police to return my camera. I was so happy and immediately had been to Police Station, Naharlagun to get my camera. Unfortunately I could not get it because police had demanded me to produce seizure list which I did not collect from police at the time of my arrest. Hence till today I have not returned this camera to Pura Sambyo, presently serving as Finance Account Officer under Government of Arunachal Pradesh nor did he remind me ever about the camera whose cost was Rs. 300 approximately in 1982.

When you go for the work out, take a time out for a break too

How is it going by you lately of your fitness front? Did you take a month or weeks off from your daily workout schedule, may be, because the goings got too tough in office or you went on a vacation and then try and compensate by putting in extra hours of exercise? Or did you take a couple of months off from your morning regimen and try your expertise in some new sport or an untried workout? Or were you down with flu or alike ailment for a week and immediately after, step on the air to prepare for a strict exercise regimen to make up for the days wasted in bed?
If you answer 'yes' to any of the above, be careful, or you could be compelled to take even more time off. "Doing too much, too soon" could lead to musculoskeletal injuries," warns Dr. Indrajit Chaki, consultant surgeon of the peerless hospital and West bank hospital in Howrah. Remember, the soft tissues of your Body (such as the muscles and tendons) need around eight weeks to adjust to a new activity.
If you are resuming your regular exercise schedule after a week or more of inactivity, do not jump back headlong into your original programme. The length of your layoff should dictate the rate at which you increase activity to pre-layoff levels. Gradually increase the frequency, duration and intensity levels of workout. Be sure to include enough days for rest and recovery while your body gears back to its previous level of activity.
"A body cannot take extra loads of stress. It affects the bones, the tendons and muscles," says Dr. Ranjan Kamilya, consultant orthopedic surgeon of peerless hospital and Duncan Gieneagles.
To much exercise cramped into an unrealistic time-frame can only result in chronic fatigue syndrome. Worse, you could come down with stress fracture too, warns Dr. Chaki.
Let your body REST. You would not like it if your boss did not give you a day or two off each week after an intense activity, would you? Your body wouldn't like it either. Chances are it would quit on you if you did not give it adequate time off. If you are new to exercise, go for a fitness evaluation before shaking that leg or heaving that weight.
If you are fairly young and a non-smoker with no history of health problems whatsoever, a consultation with your personal trainer or a fitness professional should suffice to get you going in the right direction.
If you are over 40, fond of the fag, have a history of health problems, a family history of heart disease, or any other major risk factor presaging heart disease, it is better you consult physician before starting off on any exercise programme.
If you are sore or fatigued or it is your first day, take it easy. "Exercises do not freshen a tired body," warns Dr. Chaki. The day your body sends signals of fatigue, lay off the exercise. Use lighter weights, do less reps, lower your steps, walk fewer miles, avoid big hills, stay in low gear, etc. Do not push too hard. Or else, your body will make you pay for the abuse.
Experts reiterate the fitness does not happen overnight, take your time, follow a smart programme. It will not only help you reach your health and fitness goals but also lessen the likelihood of being sidelined by injuries.
As they say, listen to your body. And give it the rest it craves. This includes the occasional vacation from exercise. A few days to a week off every now and then will give your body time to recharge and you will come back feeling stronger and better than ever. Remember, your muscles cannot get stronger if they are constantly overloaded with no time for repair.
Too much of a good thing:
You know you are doing too much too soon when:
* You exercise several hours each day and several days each week.
* You steal time from work, school and relationship to exercise.
* You do not feel relaxed as you exercise.
* You focus on the challenge with something like grim determination.
* You become fanatical about diet and weight.
* You gain little or no satisfaction from accomplishments. You do not savor victory but set a new goal as soon as you reach the old one.
* You ,work out in spite of an injury.
More than enough:
How much rest does your body need? That, of course, depends on your body. But, generally speaking, you can follow a few thumb rules:
* Schedule a minimum of 24 hours of rest between aerobic workouts.
* Schedule a minimum of 24 to 48 hours of rest between strength-training sessions, depending on nature of the workout (a more intense workout requires a longer rest between sessions).
* Take at least two days of each week from moderate-to-high intensity aerobic workouts.
Individuals who exercise more than three to five times a week are doing it for reasons other than health and general fitness. Professional athletes naturally have to go in for a lot more. However, you don't. And if you believe a little exercise is good but more is definitely better, You are necessarily mistaken. Do yourself a favour by making rest a part of your workout schedule. Transform IGGC into a centre of quality learning: Mein
TEZU, Nov 15: Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein called for transforming Indira Gandhi Govt. College into an educational Institution par excellence and ideal centre of quality learning and teaching.
Inaugurating the 27th Annual Day of the college here on Tuesday, Mein exhorted the faculty members to continue to work with the same zeal and passion to explore as well as to harness the innate literary, cultural and sports talents stored among the students. He urged them to inject innovative ideas and develop critical thinking skills among the students by organizing seminars, symposium, workshops and career counseling apart from regular academic classes.
He complemented the efforts and sincerity of the Principal, faculty members and students of the college, saying that it is because of their continued endeavour the college has been awarded B++ Grade by the National Assessment & Accreditation Council (NAAC).
Citing youths as source of strength and future representatives, he exhorted them to lead the society in right directions. He advised the students to maintain strong sense of responsibility, good discipline and character to be the role models for the youth of this region. He also advised them to abstain themselves from using abusive substances, like drugs and alcohol, which may ruin their future.
He urged them to actively participate in co-curricular and extra curricular activities, like games and sports, literary and cultural activities for all round development of their personality.
He informed that efforts are on to meet the infrastructural and educational needs of all the govt. colleges in the state in phase-wise manner.
Mein assured to look into the construction of a Rostrum in the college playground and asked the EE RWD, Tezu to prepare an estimate and submit it for placing in the priority agenda of the AOP in the next financial year.
He also said to look into the construction of a College guest house with accommodation capacity of 10 persons at a time and maintenance of the internal college campus roads and other requirements as submitted by the College Principal and General Secretary of the College Student Union separately.
Deputy Commissioner Danish Ashraf advised the students to adopt inter-disciplinary approach in their learning, saying that one should not limit their knowledge to their choice of subject. He urged the student community to cooperate the district administration in fighting against drug menace prevalent in the eastern sector of the state.
The Deputy Commissioner also urged the faculty members to impart value-based education to the students while teaching. He assured to give priority to development of educational infrastructure from his available resources.
On the occasion, the Deputy Chief Minister presented meritorious certificates to the toppers of various subjects.
Later, Mein declared the four days Annual College Day open releasing two pigeons. He also administered oath to the students.
Earlier, The Deputy Chief Minister garlanded the statue of former Prime Minister Late Indira Gandhi and unfurled the Annual College Day Flag. He also lighted the Olympic Torch and took part in the opening game of Tug-of-war between the guests and faculty members of the college.
Other attractions of the inaugural function included march-past by the college students, multi-tribes mega dance, Mishmi, Khamti and Nepali dance.
Nyethrii-dow festival concludes on a colorful note

BURAGOAN, Nov 15: The five-day long colorful Nyethrii-dow festival of Aka (Hrusso) community concluded with a colorful note here on Tuesday.
Addressing the huge gathering on the occasion, Bomdila MLA, Japu Deru said that celebration of such festival is necessary for the preservation of our unique tradition and culture.
While highlighting the need for preserving the age-old customs and traditions, he further appealed to all to work hard for ensuring peace and tranquility and well being of all communities of the state.
Responding to a memorandum submitted on the occasion, he assured to discuss the issue of upgrading the CHC Buragoan with the Minister Health. He also urged the local MLA to provide 5 lakhs from local area development fund for construction of boundary wall around festival celebration ground.
Tawang MLA, Tsering Tashi in his address said that such festivals teach us a lesson for unity, brotherhood and remind us about our tradition and culture. The younger generation needs to maintain their respective tradition and culture. Development is priority but for existence we need to be recognized as tribal and our tradition and culture need to be preserved.
Local MLA Kumsi Sidisow also spoke on the occasion.

Farmers demand renovation of irrigation project

RUKSIN, Nov 15: The local residents of Bamin-Bilat village in East district demanded the State Government for early renovation of the Peneng Minor Irrigation project and restore water supply system.
The farmers have lamented that despite repeated pleas, the Minister and MLAs of the successive State governments didn't pay attention to their demand.
It is pertinent to mention that the irrigation project was executed under Central government funding during 1975 and completed the contraction works within a period of three-years.
The executing agency (RWD) erected RCC bundhs with barrange and water canal at Peneng perennial steam/river flowing aside Bamin Bilat village and facilitated irrigation to vast area plain barren land. Thus, the irrigation project fed water to crop fields of more than 300 farming families dwelling at downstream portions.
But, the unprecedented flood in 1994 breached the main dam/barrage and badly eroded on its right side leading to collapse of the natural irrigation system.
More than 300 farming families of the old-village were affected by the damaged irrigation posing threat to their survival. It is reported that some families have migrated to some other place in search of suitable land for cultivation.
The farming families during subsequent period, developed an alternative channel aside the river at their own cost, but no adequate water supply was possible through the system.
Narrating the problems faced by the farmers, some leading villagers said that agriculture and other cropping activities have been affected since 1994 due to lack of water supply. According to them, low production of paddy grain is adversely affecting on rural economy.
"The major paddy cultivation sites (Bilat Rikmeng), which is a rice bowl in Pasighat-West area is drying up due to lack of irrigation. We have spent huge amount of money in making alternative water supply source on self help basis, but it gets eroded every year. We repeatedly moved the State government for restructuring the breached irrigation dam and canal, but our genuine demands always fall on their deaf ears", rued Elison Siram, ex-Anchal Somiti Member of Bilat.

U17 school level athletics competition concludes
PASIGHAT, Nov 15: Mido Yirang of GHSS, Mebo and Sara Pejik of GHSS, Bilat won the boys and girls 100 m race in the athletics competition (U-17) organized for the secondary level students by the Department of School Education at DEM Govt. Hr. Sec. School playground here.
Arun Taggu of GSS, GTC and Yangki Panggeng of GSS, Ngorlung finished second in boys and girls section respectively in the event (100m race).
In Discuss Throw (Boys), Honda Tacha of GHSS, Telam and Misar Perme of GHSS, IGJ, Pasighat won the first and second positions respectively.
Yangki Panggeng of GSS, Ngorlung and Germany Geling of GSS, GTC won the first and second positions in Girls Discus Throw.
In Long Jump (Girls), Jutiya Taid of GHSS, Mebo and Shila Modi of DEM GHSS, Pasighat won the first and second positions, while Lurtem Pertin of GHSS, Mebo and Tatem Saroh of GHSS, Bilat won the first and second positions in Boys Long Jump.
In Shot Put (Girls), Germany Geling of GSS, GTC and Aina Radeng, GHSS, Bilat won the first and second positions.
In Boys Shot Put, Dajum Doke, GHSS, Koyu and Lokeshor Morang of GHSS, Sille won the first and second positions respectively.
120 student athletes from 14 schools participated in the competition.
The athletics competitions featured 100m, 200m race, Shot Put and Javelin Throw.
The valedictory function was attended by Chief Councillor of PMC Kaling Doruk.
The competition was inaugurated by Tamat Gamoh, president, East Siang District Olympic Association.

NHPC officials assaulted
ITANAGAR, Nov 15: In a shocking incident an NHPC official named Bengia Guma working under Dibang hydro project was assaulted by group of local youths at Roing town this evening. According to the report masked youths entered his quarter and brutally assaulted him.
While talking to this daily Officer in-charge of Roing Police Station, informed that attackers wore mask at the time of attack. "We are working on the case. At this moment it is difficult to say who is involved and what might be the motive of the attackers," he said. The police took the victim to the hospital. However, NHPC source informed this daily that they have been facing problem due to constant demand for work and donation from the local youth of Roing area.
"At this juncture we are also clueless about motive behind this attack. But some youths at times make such kind of demand which is beyond our reach. Such situation usually leads to violence. We appeal state government to provide enough security to NHPC officials," said an official of NHPC who did not wished to be named.
2nd phase of TAH re-assessment begins
DAPORIJO, Nov 15: Upper Subansiri Deputy Commissioner AK Singh has started second phase of re-assessment of Trans- Arunachal Highway from Pega Rijo, Daporijo to Dumporijo forest check gate covering a distance of 14 km.
The Deputy Commissioner is taking initiative to complete re-assessment process and payment of compensation at earliest possible so that Trans Arunachal Highway work can be completed for the benefit of the people and state.
So far, compensations were given to 447 Trans Arunachal Highway affected people out of the 2500. DIPRO
Enquiry sought into IRBN jawan's death
ITANAGAR, Nov 15: The All Liyang Welfare Society has sought judicial enquiry into the death of IRBN jawan Ajit Sono who was found dead between Nirjuli and Karsingsa recently.
Sono had been missing since November 9 and a missing diary was lodged by the company commander of STF with the Banderdewa PS on Nov 10 evening.
Action against absentee teachers
YUPIA, Nov 15: Papum Pare DC, Tai Kaye has directed the Sagalee ADC, Jalash Pertin and Papum Pare DDSE to initiate strict action against the absentee teachers of Government Residential School at Totpu.
The DC, who was on a visit to the Sagalee Sub Division inspected schools, primary health centres, anganwadi centres, water supply and power supply at Toru, Leporiang and Parang Circles. During his tour, the DC also found that no CO was posted at Leporiang while, the Public Health Centres at Pareng and Leporiang were functioning without doctors as most of them are pursuing PG course outside the state.
Accompanied by Sagalee ADC, Jalash Pertin, the DC also assessed the progress of various state and central sponsored schemes being implemented in the district including the Nichipu Pake Kessang-Sagalee-Kheel-Hoj Trans Arunachal Highway work which has been undertaken by Sushee Infra Ltd. (DIPRO)
DCM inaugurates 'Kiosk System' in Tezu
TEZU, Nov 15: A Kiosk System- Lohit Information on Fingertip was inaugurated by Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein here in the National Informatics Centre Office on Tuesday. Deputy Commissioner Danish Ashraf, officers and other staff of DC office were present on the occasion.
The information about various administrative functions and necessary details about district has been personally drafted by the DC, Lohit Danish Ashraf and NIC Tezu configured it accordingly. The touch screen enabled Kiosk System, perhaps of its only kind to have been launched by the District Administration, is a portable device which runs with power supply. It has been configured with all the necessary information relating to Lohit District, viz-a-viz, information on tourism, district administration, important contacts, public representatives, Jan Suvidha, Helpline, NPR & Aaadhar, Disaster Management, and Children's Corner etc with photo galleries at one's fingertip in a single system.
While inaugurating the system DCM showed interest in the new set up and browsed through the various tabs provided in the system. Deputy Commissioner informed DCM that Kiosk System will be put in Jan Suvidha Centre, Tezu and will also be used as info centre for various festivals like Parsuram Kund etc. (DIPRO)

ITANAGAR, Nov 15: AB-Jill Society became champion of the volleyball tournament organized by Defence Club Ziro on the eve of silver jubilee celebration at Hija ground. Yazali Super Six was the runners up team.
A total of six seven teams, namely Helipad Sports Club, Yazali Super Six, Veteran Club, Bumte Club, AB-Jill Society, Paph Keliya Club and Old Ziro Youth Club participated in the tournament
Winner AB-Jill Society was awarded cash prize of Rs. 30,000 with trophy while Runners Up team Yazali Super Six was given cash prize of Rs. 20,000 with trophy.
Earlier, EAC Mokar Riba declared the tournament open at Hija ground, Old Ziro on November 14.

Fire destroys six houses at Sagalee
ITANAGAR, Nov 15: Six houses including, an RCC building, 2 Government Type-II SPT quarters, an OBT kitchen, shop and a hut were completely destroyed in a devastating fire which broke out at Sagalee town in the midnight of Nov 14 last.
According to Papum Pare ADC, Jalash Pertin, no human casualty was reported in the incident. However, the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
The ADC further informed that the fire could have been put under control on time if a fire tender had been available in the district. 'Demand for a fire tender was placed before the GoAP many times but no steps have been initiated in this regard', he informed and appealed to the GoAP to place funds for reconstruction of the government quarter.
Green UFC and PTC register big wins
ITANAGAR, Nov 15: Green UFC and PTC registered big wins against their respective opponents Papa FC and Singhik United FC in the 4th State Level Veteran Cup Football Tournament on Tuesday.
Green UFC defeated Papa FC 7-3 and PTC trounced Singhik United FC 7-0.
The match played between AUFC and Kra-Daadi ended in 1-1 draw.
Kra-daadi Premier LeagueT20 Cricket Tournament begins
PALIN, Nov.15: Kra-daadi Premier LeagueT20 Cricket Tournament organized by Cricket Association of Kra Daadi began here on Tuesday.
The opening match was played between Gangte Cricket Club and Todo Cricket Club in which the former defeated the latter by 3 wickets.
Eight teams from various circles of Kra Daadi district are participating in the tournament, the final match of which will be held on November 21.

Recruitment rally at Aalo
ITANAGAR, Nov 15: An army recruitment rally is being conducted at Aalo from Dec 1 to 6 next for the all the districts of the state. The ARO, Jorhat has intimated that the admit cards for all the candidates, who applied online, have been generated and emailed to the candidates.

Selected young Arunachalee boxers leave for Shillong
ITANAGAR, Nov 15: Under-14 Arunachalee boxers, who were selected by Army Boxing Coach of BSC 58 GTC Shillong during the first Jarbom Gamlin State Level Boxing Championships, are leaving for Shillong for trial. Students lodge complaint with DC
ITANAGAR, Nov 15: Namsai district unit of Arunachal Students' Federation (ASF) has lodged a complaint with Deputy Commissioner against an LPG agency at Tezu for allegedly failing to comply with an administrative order in distributing gas cylinders to the consumers.
In its complaint letter, the students' federation alleged that the said LPG agency never delivers cooking gas to its consumers on time. Consumers have to stand in queue for more than six to seven hours in front of the Gas Agency to get their cylinders. The ASF unit also claimed that there was record of issuing cylinders to the consumers at night time around 9pm and 10pm.
Narrating the hardship faced by the consumers, the ASF unit appealed to the Deputy Commissioner to give strict order to the gas agency to comply with the earlier order issued on October 24, wherein the DC had directed the gas agency to issue gas cylinders on every Wednesday and Sunday for the convenience of the consumers.

Dear Editor,
World Diabetes Day was celebrated on November 14. Diabetes has now become a major public health concern especially in India because of several reasons. Today, over 300 million people live with diabetes. A similar number is at high risk. Diabetes is a major health issue in our country. One of the important barriers in handling this issue is the change in behaviour of the people and awareness on the importance of lifestyle modification. Diabetes makes people prone to heart disease, kidney failure and infectious diseases like tuberculosis, malaria, and HIV/AIDS, among others, leading to premature death. Sugar is the new tobacco, experts, medical studies and health organizations have declared. The belief is that diabetes is an urban and rich man’s disease but we now know that the annual increase in the numbers of those with diabetes is much higher in the rural areas, poor individuals and those less educated.
Diabetes isn't deadly, it just needs regular monitoring and medication and disciplined living. Regular exercise and healthy eating are the only ways to control blood sugar levels and stay fit. Diabetes is not a disease but a metabolic disorder. Acceptance of the problem is the first step to dealing with it. We need to take to heart the statement that "strengthening primary care is imperative". This is true of not only diabetes, but for all widely prevelant and enduring ailments. Many patients think that mere changes in food habits and taking alternative therapy can control diabetes but that's impossible. Lifestyle correction is a must, but one cannot stop insulin intake. Not taking insulin leads to formation of ulcers, infections and high sugar levels. Excessive urine, thirst and hunger, unexplained weight loss and fatigue are some of the common symptoms. All of these occur due to insulin deficiency.
According to the Diabetes Foundation of India, about 50.9 million people in India suffer from diabetes, and this figure is likely to go up to 80 million by 2025, making it the ‘Diabetes Capital’ of the world.
Unhealthy diet is one major cause of the disorder. People focus on reducing the quantity
of food but are unaware of the caloric value of food items they consume. The medical
fraternity needs to gear up to the challenge of preventing, diagnosing and treating

We need to work collaboratively with governments, civil society, private sectors, schools, workplaces, media and other local partners. We all have a role to play to ensure healthier environment for a healthy living. Walking is perhaps the simplest and the most effective way to maintain one’s health, and for diabetics to manage the chronic disease as it doesn’t require any training or special equipment, which means it can be done without a break. Living with diabetes may not be easy but it isn’t impossible either. A few lifestyle and dietary changes is all it takes to keep the disease in control.
